Buddy Holly Planes

I thought that American Airlines and retired all of their prop planes. I was quite suprised yesterday when I looked out the terminal window and saw propellers on my plane! And a little concerned when the gate agent came on the overhead and told us that there were some "maintenance issues" with our plane. This went on for about an hour and then they had us walk from one end of the terminal to the other to get on a little jet. We were understandably a cranky bunch, which only intensified when the stewardess was cranky. There was almost a mutiny, except none of us knew how to fly the Brazilian made plane.

Now, here I am in the Corpus Christi International Airport (I know, nothing international about this place) and I have already been told that there were "maintenance issues" with the propellor plane that was coming in and now I am going to be delayed at least an hour. I found this out after I have already turned in my rental car so I am stranded here at the airport.

I'm sorry Southwest, I'll never turn away from you again!!

Good morning?

Hello everyone! I know that you're probably all asleep right now, as any sane person would be, but not I! No, no.

You see, even though it IS 4:12 A.M., yours truly was asked to do the design for the Journal of International Affairs, a layout which is due to the rest of the editorial board by Tuesday-ish. So we can publish on Thursday-ish. Which wouldn't be so bad except we have to use Chicago style, and practically everyone wrote in MLA. AHHHHHHH! So tomorrow, while I'm in class, I'll probably be laying out JIA.

BUT there is a silver lining. The current EiC of JIA is graduating this year, and has asked me if she could recommend me to Dr. Messette (the faculty advisor of International Affairs Society, the organization that publishes JIA) for next year's Editor-in-Chief. Heck yes!

On top of that, I received a letter on Saturday informing me that I've been selected as a Councilman for the University of Oklahoma Student Association (UOSA) Honor Council.

AND, on top of that, I'm applying to UOSA Exec to work as an Advocate or Department Director in Student Government.

Ah, life is good.

Except for that whole no-sleeping bit, which I'm probably about to rectify.

Nighty night, world.

Vivi's Birthday party - beware the spray

On Good Friday we did Vivi's birthday party (was the only day we could do it during the school year when her friends could be there and Mom and Dad too). We had our little fiesta at the local big cat rescue rehab facility called InSync Exotics. Cool place, lots of lions and tigers and cougars oh my. At the beginning of the tour our guide told us that as we walked by the cages if a big cat turned its behind toward you and raised its' tail you should move left, or right of the end of the tiger as it was probably getting ready to "spray" you and that you should not run back as they can spray up to 9 feet backward.

About 30 minutes into our tour our young lady is telling us about Aurora the tiger, with her back to the tiger, when said tiger raises its' tail. All of the mothers yell "LOOK OUT!!" and children scatter screaming, leaving a very worried and startled young lady guide standing in the line of fire.

The tiger didn't spray her, but we were told to NOT DO THAT AGAIN and had to practice moving to the left and right a couple of times.

Wayward Son

No it's not just the title from a Kansas classic rock son anymore (or at our house a bedtime lullaby). It is an appropriate tag for any one of my three younger sons. It seems that when Dad is on the road they think it is o.k. to wander astray from the rules of the house.

Sad day when Dad gets home

in the land of the drive through liquor store

From Steve

I am in the land of the drive through liquor store for the next couple of days. That's right, no front door, just a drive through window for mixed drinks. They have Long Island Ice Tea, Daquiri, Margarita, you name it they serve it. And this is not one store in some backwater area, no this is all of the southern Louisianna. Some of these little towns have three all at one intersection!

And they wonder why the education level for Louisianna is so low.

Ugh. Three more days...

I don't know why I'm already ready for this week to end. Realistically, it hasn't been a very hard one or anything. I had an exam today (Tuesday), but I think I did pretty well on most of it (the jury is still out on the multiple choice section). The only other thing I did was an experiment for Psychology wherein I had to play the part of an air traffic controller. Pshaw. I could that all day. And apparently they make beaucoup bucks, too, AND they don't need a degree! SIGN ME UP! Maybe ... I've also heard it's a pretty hectic job. Meh. Couldn't be any more hectic than juggling however many majors/minors I'm up to now.

Oh yeah, speaking of which, in case you haven't heard, I may be changing stuff around on the academic front. I've always wanted to do something medical, and for a long time, I was *really* looking pretty hardcore at neurology or neurosurgery. I can pinpoint the EXACT day that I told myself it wasn't for me, and the really irritating part is that I disagree with the reasons I gave myself back then. I'm so frustrated because I could have been on track with a B.S. in Psychology and a Premedical program from the start, but instead I've been dragging around with this major and that minor and whatnot. I'm currently an International Security Studies and Psychology major with three minors (Russian, Linguistics, Socio-criminology), and I'm looking at going back to my original plan. But I can't justify not completing the last few requirements for ISS (or my Russian minor either), so I'm stuck looking down the barrel of a freaking TRIPLE major in ISS/Psych/Premed with FOUR minors (Russian, Socio-criminology, Zoology, Chemistry).

I'm a little stressed about school. It's such a crock anyway. A bunch of classes that teach me nothing worth paying thousands of dollars and spending hundreds—potentially thousands—of hours of my time forget-...I mean learning. UGH.

And on an unrelated note, I'm irritated with myself because I missed a sale at Kohls that ended today (I have a gift-card). And my room is messy. It stresses me out. Plus I just finished laundry last night and still haven't really gotten around to the part where I fold it and put it away yet.

But it's really really late, I still need to shower before bed (I always shower before bed too, to keep my sheets smelling clean and fresh, and to wind down).

GAH.

Love, Zekiel."

Say What? ^-^

More quotes I think are fun!

"When Life rains on your parade....BREAK OUT THE SLIP AND SLIDE!!"

"When stuck between two evils I always take the one I've never done before!"

*From a fortune cookie in a Chinese restaurant* "That wasn't chicken"

fortune teller-"I see a good man in your future."
Marlie- "What? Only one?"

"90% of baseball is half mental"

"It just is."

From God:
"don't make me come down there"
"I talk you listen"
"Thou shat sit in time out"
"Thou shalt do the dance"
Thou shalt shut up and listen"

From the tribe:

Me: "The most important thing about history is the past"

Greta: "I'm NAKEY!!"

Crazy Aunt Wally: "Go eat some ice cream to calm down!"

Bella: "I'm not just any pillow I'm THE pillow!"

Me: "Napoleon had a dream of world domination and a booster seat."

Zeke :That's katie she's my sister. that's Grammy she's my Grammy. That's Dad He's crazy"

Dad: *Screaming with vain bulging* "NOW WE WILL SIT DOWN AND HAVE A NICE AND QUITE MEAL!!!! NOW BE HAPPY ABOUT IT!!!!!!"

Me: *Dad muttering under his breath picks up a head of lettuce and slams it on the the counter.* "Was that supposed to do any thing?"

But My ALL TIME FAVORITE

Me: Mom mom come quick!"
Mom: "No Katie I can't right now."
Me: No Mom you really gata come."
Mom: "Okay what is it?"
Me: "it's GRASS and it's GROWING on the DIRT!"

Dog logic

Deal with every stressful situation like a dog.

If you can't eat it

or play with it

Just pee on it and walk away! ^-^

Saw that in an e-mail from grammy, it is now my quote for the day.
